Recycling

Recycle at The Original Factory Shop today Batteries Under the Waste Battery Regulations, The Original Factory Shop now offers a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries. There’ll be a waste battery collection bin, where you’ll be able to dispose of all your used batteries (*Except industrial and car batteries) free of charge! You don’t have to do anything else other than bring your old batteries for us to recycle. Waste batteries can be returned to any local store (for a full list see store locator; please do not post). The batteries that we collect will be sent for proper treatment to ensure that as many of the chemicals and materials as possible can be recycled or disposed of safely. Currently, much of this waste ends up in landfill where the harmful substances in some batteries can cause pollution and potentially be a hazard to health. You shouldn’t put batteries in your dustbin and that’s why these items are now marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol. Electrical products (WEEE)

WEEE Regulations for disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Look out for this symbol!

If the symbol shown here is found on any of your goods, it means that the product is classed as Electrical or Electronic Equipment and is covered by the WEEE Regulations. If you have other forms of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) that you’d like to dispose of, The Original Factory Shop is part of a Distributor Take Back Scheme. What is the Distributor Take Back Scheme? The DTS is designed to meet the obligations of distributors without the need to offer free in store take back. Instead of offering free in store back, distributors will make a financial contribution to the DTS which will be used to assist in the development of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collection facilities throughout the UK. The Original Factory Shop (including its website) has joined Phase 3 of the Distributor Take Back Scheme (DTS) for a further 4 years which means we will have our obligations met for four more years from January 2013, and therefore The Original Factory Shop (including its website) will not be required to offer any form of free take back of WEEE until at least 2017. Not all council sites are suitable to collect all types of waste electrical goods, but to find out your nearest participating site, please visit www.recycle-more.co.uk or call freephone 0800 915 9023 (The Original Factoryshop (including its website) is not responsible for the content of external websites).
