Is your home ready for the cold snap? As the temperature starts to drop, the cooler winter weather is approaching fast, it’s time to bring out the winter woollies and start looking forward to cosy nights in, hot chocolate and binge on box-sets (Netflix here we come). To make your home as warm and inviting as possible and to ward off those winter blues, here are our top 10 tips and ideas to turn your home into a cosy retreat and beat the winter chill on a budget.

Give Your Heating a boost…

Turn a chilly room into a warm retreat with ease by investing in a portable heater. An easy way to add extra warmth on a budget. Choose an option which is right for you, from energy efficient oil filled heaters to fan heaters or oil free to electric heaters.

Add an electric blanket and flannel sheets baby…

No one wants to get into a cold bed during the winter, try adding an electric blanket to keep you toasty. Most are energy efficient, cost very little to run and offer heat that is comfortable next to skin. Heat is also known to encourage blood flow that can alleviate sore muscles and conditions such as backache or arthritis. Adding flannel sheets will give you that extra snuggly feel.

Grab a hot water bottle…

Cuddle up with a hot water bottle to avoid racking up the heating bill. Top Tip: Fill up a hot water bottle and place it under your bedding and duvet at the foot of your bed to keep your feet warm at night!

Insulate with curtain liners…

Everyone knows that curtains keep out draughts, but a thermal liner takes that up to a whole new level even on a budget. It may test your sewing skills, but you’ll for sure notice the difference.

Add ambience with candles…

Create that warm and cosy feeling with scented candles and fairy lights. Whether you’re working or relaxing a candle can transform your space in an instance, whilst leaving your home smelling gorgeous. We are loving Woodwick and Yankee Candle at the moment.

Block out the draught…

Cut down on mini draughts! Try adding a brush strip to the bottom of your front door, or sealing around the cat door frame to block out any draughts. A draught excluder to run along the bottom of your door is another budget friendly option that is readily available.

Throws and blankets…

Add style and comfort to your home by layering up beds, sofas and chairs with cosy throws and blankets. Perfect for snuggling into after a long day at work.

Insulate behind the radiator…

Radiators on outside walls lose heat, so adding a thermal panel behind it will keep more heat in the room. You can find low cost radiator insulator materials and packs in most DIY stores.

Add a shelf above a radiator…

Adding a floating shelf above a radiator can help stop the heat from rising too quickly and help to keep your home that bit warmer for longer. But be sure to not put anything on the shelf that could get damaged by the heat! Be sure to bleed the radiators too.

Cosy cushions and rugs…

Soft shaggy rugs help to keep your home looking cosy, feel beautifully soft underfoot, and manage to easily add a sense of warmth and cosiness to any room. Layer up with cushions for an extra sumptuous and cosy feel to your home.
