How To: Create A Feature Wall

Are you are looking for a way to add instant wow factor to drab walls and bare rooms? You can make a serious style statement with wallpaper, paint, transfers, and more. A great way to flex your creativity and add dramatic focal points to livings rooms, bathrooms and more.

No matter your budget you can easily transform a blank wall into a show-stopping feature using a broad range of materials; a great way to add colour, texture or both to any space in your home. Sticking to one wall, you can add a lot of style to a room without making it feel to busy. We’ve gathered a few ideas to help you get inspired.

Dept Using Dark Colours

A feature wall doesn’t necessarily mean gaudy and claustrophobic patterns. Dark, richly pigmented colours are on-trend and will add depth in an instant. A single deep colour on one wall can add interest, a sense of intimacy, luxury and sophistication to a room in a single coat of paint. Think livings rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. All you need is a paint in your chosen colour and a paint brush or roller.

Top Tip: Pick walls that can be used to highlight an interesting focal point in the room, such as where the fireplace sits, a doorway, behind a corner sofa or bed.

Wallpaper Panels As Art

Does the word wallpaper fill you with dread? Flash backs of bad wallpaper you’ve lived with, or hours spent painstakingly stripping paper off the walls. Try using wallpaper as art, instead of committing to the entire wall or room. Frame wallpaper to create beautiful panels to accent your space. Non- permanent pieces you can move around the house, change when you feel like an update, or take with you if moving home. All you need is a frame of your choice and size and then some beautiful wallpaper.

Top Tip: Try textured wallpaper to up the interest stakes and add a dimensional textured affect. Works in any room.

Tiles Transfers

Make a big impression on a small budget! Are your kitchen and bathroom tiles in need of some love? Replacing tiles can be expensive, but don’t worry you can easily decorate them, to give them a new lease of life without blowing your budget. Tile transfers (or tile stickers) are an easy way to add character and charm to a tiled room. Apply these smart adhesive transfer designs to existing tiles, blank walls, cabinets or even glass splashbacks.

Top Tip: Create a geometric or bold colourful pattern using the sticker decals for a modern take without the expense.

Photo Wall

Gallery style displays and photo walls have been all the rage over the past few years. Use your framed personal photographs or use a curated set of framed wall prints (often themed) to get the look. Measure your wall space and lay your collection on the floor to try different layouts. Alternatively use pieces of paper and blu-tac them to the wall until you find your desired layout. There are no hard and fast rules, you can use frames of all the same size and colour, in odd or even numbers or even frames of different sizes, shapes and colour.

Top Tip: Use removable hooks to hang frames and wall art, so they can be easily removed without any damage to the wall.
