It’s not all about SKY, Netflix, Disney+ and Prime, BBC iPlayer has some cracking content to stream!

Aside from everyday staples like Eastenders and The One Show there are some amazing dramas available, to while away those moments where you just want a good night in.

Grab your snacks, get comfy cosy with your cushions and throw and be transported far beyond the sofa to distant lands, times gone by or even up close within a crime scene!

Returning for series 3 this British legal drama series follows the lives of the Defoe’s a family of female divorce lawyers. Watch as they are forced to face their pasts, relationship traumas and the return of their estranged father after 30 years. Starring the talented Nicola Walker, now one of our leading actresses from Unforgotten, Last Tango in Halifax and many more dramas on our screens.

 

Sherwood

Sherwood

A brand new crime drama inspired by real-life events. Two murders shatter an already fractured community leading to one of the largest manhunts in British history and a divided police force. The undercurrent of the show deals with Nottinghamshire minors who were in the 1984 strikes. Starring David Morrisey alongside Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt.

 

Gentleman Jack

Gentleman Jack

Set in 1830s Yorkshire Suranne Jones leads the cast as landowner and industrialist Anne Lister – a true life figure. Restoring her uncle’s estate she develops a potentially dangerous romance with another woman, which she records in a cryptic diary. Get stuck in with two series available to watch.

 

The Responder

The Responder

A British police drama set in Liverpool, written by a former Merseyside officer. Starring Martin Freeman, Adelayo Adedayo, Ian Hart, and MyAnna Buring. Freeman stars as a police officer from Liverpool, under strain from a run of six consecutive night shifts, impacting his mental health. Although fictional this high-stakes drama has it’s roots in experiences of the writer. Series one is available, a second has been commissioned so one to invest in.

For any fans of Christian Grey this is a must watch. Jamie Dornan stars in this thriller set in Australia. When an Irish man wakes up with amnesia in an Australian hospital, he must start to piece together who he is, before it’s too late when his past starts to catch up with him!

This 2021 historical drama starting Claire Foy and Paul Bettany tells the highly turbulent story of one of the most scandalous divorce cases in British history, between the Duke and Duchess of Argyll. With only 3 episodes it’s one to watch when you want a quick fix of drama without the commitment of a big series.

Tense. Submarine. Drama. Those 3 words give you a flavour, but you’ll have to watch this 6 part starring Suranne Jones to truly appreciate the confined tension of a police drama set beneath the waves! DCI Amy Silva of the Scottish Police Service is sent aboard HMS Vigil, a nuclear-powered Vanguard-class ballistic missile submarine, to investigate a death. Her investigations, and those of her colleagues ashore, bring the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and MI5, the British Security Service. It’s been renewed for a second series, so brace yourself for more action-packed suspense.

The latest series aired from the end of May and the British crime drama, focusing on a team of forensic pathologists, goes from strength to strength! The 25th anniversary series sees the return of Amanda Burton as Dr Sam Ryan, who looks likely to butt heads with Jack and Nikki when she arrives back at the Lyell. For existing fans of the show don’t miss the latest episodes, for anyone who’s not watched it now is as good a time as ever to start and what a back catalogue!
