Make Your Beauty Products Last Longer
Beauty products can be our best friends and a great pick me-up. But some of these products can come with a hefty price tag. High quality products are worth investing in, so getting the most out of your purchases in tougher times is essential to ensure none of your precious potions or powders go to waste. Here are our money saving ways to make your beauty products last longer, to help maximise your wallet!
Cut open your tubes
It’s easy to overlook just how much of your moisturiser, serum or foundation is left in the nooks and crannies of bottles and tubes. A simple trick to make these items go further is to cut open the tube to squeeze out the last bits. You should get at least a few more days to weeks use out of them.
To help the cut open tubes last, tuck one part of the tube into the other. Also be sure to cut the tubes open with clean scissors, to avoid transfer of any bacteria.
Get more wears from a run out lipstick
When you're down to the bottom of your lipstick, the chances are you can get a few more wears out of it. Use a cotton bud to scoop out every last smidge of your lipstick or lip gloss. Added bonus, using a cotton bud is more sanitary than using your fingers.
Save a cracked compact or powder blush
Have you ever dropped your compact blush or eyeshadow palette? The horror! But there is a fix. Gather as much of the product as possible and place back in the compact, add a few drops of rubbing alcohol and press the pieces back together. The product will re-set back to good as new.
Make your foundation go further
If you don’t need much of coverage, mix a small amount of your foundation or tinted moisturiser with your everyday moisturiser to help make both products last longer. Base coverage and hydration in one, boom!
Rejuvenate old clumpy mascara
It’s frustrating when your favourite mascara starts to clump and dry out, but don’t chuck it away. To prolong the life of a dried-up mascara, place it in a mug of hot water for 3 minutes to loosen up the clumps. Then add 1-2 drops of almond oil, olive oil or contact solution into your mascara tube and shake well. Voila, your mascara is rejuvenated, so you don’t need to splash out on a new one.
Prolong the life of your razor
Keep your razor blade sharper for longer so you don’t need to replenish as quickly. After you shower, dry your razor and soak in baby oil. The oil helps prevent dulling minerals in the water from hanging around on the blade and keeps the metal from oxidizing.
Revive a hardened-up nail polish
Rescue your favourite shade of hardened or gloopy nail polish by adding a few drops of nail polish thinner to restore its consistency, and make it go a little further.
