The sun is starting to make an appearance, the temperature is rising, and the warmer weather will be here before you know it. While we make way for summer holidays, BBQs and seaside fun, don’t forget to adjust your summer skincare routine too. It’s time to make a few changes to your regime so you can get that lit-from-within summer glow. We’ve rounded up our top summer skincare tips and trending skincare products to help you maximise your skincare and beauty routine.
1. SPF. SPF. SPF
Sun exposure and UV rays can cause premature aging, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Add a good sunscreen with an SPF of 30-50 into your daily skincare routine.
2. Invest in a good quality Vitamin C cream
Vitamin C is great all year round, but especially important in the summer months. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that will help prevent hyperpigmentation and boost collagen. For best results apply your Vitamin C after cleansing.
3. Exfoliate regularly for healthy skin
Summer months are the perfect time to slough away dead skin. Try an exfoliator formulated with salicylic acid, an oil-based ingredient that can penetrate pores and remove excess sebum, but be sure to use an exfoliator suitable for your skin type.
4. Lighten-up your moisturiser
Switch to a lightweight moisturiser to avoid clogging pores, over-loading and suffocating the skin. Choose a gel-based formula for dry skin and water based for oily skin rather than cream-based products which can be heavy and greasy.
5. Avoid wearing heavy make-up
Heavy make-up prevents the skin form breathing, as can humidity and heat, so together this can be a toxic combination for your skin. Consider using a tinted moisturiser rather than full coverage foundation or brave it with just concealer alone.
6. Stay hydrated
You water in-take in summer months should be at least 2-3 litres a day. Coconut water, watermelon and fresh juices are a good way to stay hydrated and to flush toxins from your skin and body. Vegetables like lettuce and cucumber will also help keep the body cool from within.
7. Treat sunburn and over-exposure quickly
Be sure to use aloe vera gel or an after-sun product to help cool and treat over-exposed skin. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Cold showers will also help. Although it’s best to prevent sun damage by using a good quality SFP.
